Os malês segundo ‘Abd Al-Raḥmān Al-Baghdādī, um imã otomano no Brasil oitocentista

RESUMO Uso o relato de ‘Abd al-Raḥmān al-Baghdādī, imã otomano que visitou Brasil (1866-69), como guia para discutir sua pregação a comunidades afro-muçulmanas no país. Esse relato, conhecido há quase três décadas pela historiografia especializada, proporciona uma visão interna da comunidade africana adepta do Islã oitocentista, com detalhes só superados pelos documentos Revolta dos Malês em 1835. Além repassar percebeu vida devocional malês nas cidades por ele visitadas (Rio Janeiro, Salvador e Recife), artigo mobiliza outras fontes bibliografia dissentir ou algumas suas informações interpretações situação seus adeptos oitocentista. Assim, interessam não apenas as tensões envolvidas na relação entre discípulos, mas também estes sociedade ao redor, tal definidas pelo viajante.
